Narra las andanzas de un bandolero andaluz del siglo XIX en la Serranía de Ronda (Andalucía). Los protagonistas son cuatro bandoleros: Curro Jiménez (Sancho Gracia), El Algarrobo (Álvaro de Luna), El Gitano (Eduardo García) y El Estudiante (José Sancho). La trama se basa en el concepto romántico del bandolero generoso y la lucha contra los franceses durante la guerra de la Independencia (1808-1814). Se entremezclan también historias de amor y episodios cómicos
